The Amity Affliction was founded by high school friends Ahren Stringer (bass, clean vocals) and Troy Brady (guitar) in 2003. While the lineup has undergone changes over the years, key members, including Joel Birch (unclean vocals), have remained constant.

The band released several EPs and their debut album, “Severed Ties”, in 2008. This early material showcased a blend of metalcore and post-hardcore elements, establishing the band’s foundation.

The Amity Affliction’s sound evolved over subsequent releases, incorporating melodic and accessible elements while maintaining a core of heavy and emotionally charged music. Their willingness to experiment with various musical styles contributed to their broad appeal.

The band achieved commercial success with albums like “Youngbloods” (2010), “Chasing Ghosts” (2012), and “Let The Ocean Take Me” (2014), all of which entered high positions on the ARIA Albums Chart. “This Could Be Heartbreak” (2016) further solidified their status, reaching number one on the ARIA chart.

The Amity Affliction is known for addressing themes of mental health, personal struggles, and self-reflection in their lyrics. The emotionally charged content has resonated with fans and contributed to the band’s impact.
