Description

Originally released in 1980, The Turn Of A Friendly Card stands as one of The Alan Parsons Project’s most celebrated albums — a richly produced progressive pop concept record exploring the psychology of gambling, risk and fate. The band’s fifth studio album became a major international success, achieving gold and platinum status in numerous countries and cementing the group’s reputation for ambitious, story-driven albums paired with meticulous studio craftsmanship.

Built around the themes of chance and obsession within the gambling world, the album blends progressive rock, orchestral arrangements and melodic pop with the distinctive studio precision that defined the partnership of producer/engineer Alan Parsons and songwriter Eric Woolfson. As with many Alan Parsons Project releases, the record features a rotating lineup of vocalists including Chris Rainbow, Colin Blunstone, Lenny Zakatek and Eric Woolfson, supported by renowned session musicians such as guitarist Ian Bairnson, bassist David Paton and drummer Stuart Elliott, with arrangements by Andrew Powell.

This 2026 reissue has been half-speed remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios and pressed on limited edition 180g clear vinyl, delivering exceptional detail and clarity. The vinyl cut is sourced from high-resolution transfers of Eric Woolfson’s rarely played duplicate analogue master tapes, preserving the original recording with remarkable fidelity.

Released as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of The Alan Parsons Project, this special edition includes an insert featuring sleeve notes and reflections from Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson. A beautifully presented reissue of a progressive rock classic and a must-have for collectors and fans of meticulously crafted concept albums.
