Sonic Youth Bad Moon Rising

Bad Moon Rising is the second studio album from Sonic Youth, a dark, uncompromising early work that helped establish the New York band as one of the most important forces in American underground and alternative rock.

Originally released in 1985, the album captures Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Lee Ranaldo and Bob Bert developing the experimental guitar language that would become central to Sonic Youth's sound. Alternate tunings, layers of feedback, dissonance and hypnotic repetition combine with an ominous atmosphere influenced by the darker side of American culture.

Designed to flow almost as a continuous piece, Bad Moon Rising moves through tracks including Brave Men Run, Society Is A Hole, I Love Her All The Time and Ghost Bitch before culminating in Death Valley '69, Sonic Youth's collaboration with Lydia Lunch and one of the defining recordings of the band's early period.

Raw, confrontational and atmospheric, the album provides a fascinating bridge between Sonic Youth's earliest no-wave experimentation and the increasingly sophisticated records that would follow, including EVOL, Sister and Daydream Nation.
