Silverchair Live At The Cabaret Metro

Live At The Cabaret Metro captures Silverchair at the very beginning of their extraordinary rise, performing live in Chicago while touring their breakthrough debut album Frogstomp.

The Australian trio were still only teenagers when Frogstomp transformed them from a young Newcastle band into an international rock phenomenon. Originally released in 1995, the album became a major critical and commercial success, selling more than two million copies in the United States alone and establishing Silverchair as one of the most successful Australian rock exports of the era.

Touring in support of the album brought Silverchair to Chicago's legendary Cabaret Metro, a venue deeply connected to the alternative and grunge explosion of the 1990s and one that hosted artists including Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and The Smashing Pumpkins.

The performance captures Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou in their raw early form, delivering the heavy guitars, youthful intensity and explosive dynamics that made Frogstomp such an immediate success.

Recordings from the Cabaret Metro performance were originally released in 1996 as the promotional CD Live, featuring seven live tracks along with the hidden track Fat Donuts. Live At The Cabaret Metro now brings this early document of Silverchair's career to vinyl.

More than simply a live companion to Frogstomp, the recording captures a remarkable moment when three teenage musicians from Newcastle suddenly found themselves performing on the international stage during the height of alternative rock's 1990s dominance.
