Silver Jews Bright Flight

For Bright Flight, Silver Jews’ David Berman relocated to Nashville to give his already country-stained indie rock a little extra twang. “Slow Education” sets the scene, as golden slide guitars circle around Berman’s wryly morose baritone, while “Tennessee” hits a gorgeous stride thanks to sweet vocals from Cassie Marrett. It doesn’t get more classic Silver Jews than the dejected self-inquisition of “Horseleg Swastikas”, with lyrics like: “I wanna be like water if I can/Cause water doesn’t give a damn”.
