Produced by Alan Thorne and Paul Kelly, the album includes two of Kelly's enduring early classics, Before Too Long and Darling It Hurts. Gossip reached No. 15 on the Australian albums chart and achieved Gold status, laying the foundations for the extraordinary body of work that would follow.

This 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition presents the double album across two coloured records — LP1 on Blue Vinyl and LP2 on Yellow Vinyl. Each copy also includes one of several replica handwritten Paul Kelly lyric sheets, randomly inserted, adding a unique archival element to the anniversary release.
