Originally released in 1998, Aquemini is the third studio album from OutKast and a landmark of Southern hip-hop. Its title combines André 3000’s Aquarius and Big Boi’s Gemini star signs, reflecting the contrasting personalities and creative chemistry at the heart of the duo.
Moving beyond the spacious production of ATLiens, the album embraces live instrumentation and draws from 1970s funk, Southern soul, gospel, country and psychedelic rock. Featuring “Rosa Parks,” “Aquemini,” “Da Art Of Storytellin’ (Pt. 1)” and “SpottieOttieDopaliscious,” the record balances adventurous production with vivid storytelling and thoughtful explorations of identity, relationships and life in the American South.
A commercial and critical success, Aquemini is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential hip-hop albums ever recorded.
