Description
Released in 1990, Ragged Glory was always seen as a kind of comeback album—not only because it was Neil Young’s best (or at least his best with Crazy Horse) since Rust Never Sleeps, but because it came out at a time when you could hear his influence everywhere in underground rock, from the Pixies to Sonic Youth to Dinosaur Jr. Recorded during a private live set in late 2023, Fu##in’ Up is a by-and-large faithful reading that stretches out the jams (“Valley of Hearts [Love to Burn]”, “A Chance on Love [Love and Only Love]”), cranks the crankiness (“Heart of Steel [Fuckin’ Up]”) and, with the help of 30-plus more years, makes Young’s yearning for a simpler life sound that much more poignant (“City Life [Country Home]”). Fans knew it was a classic—now they know Young knows, too.
