Mitski Laurel Hell

On Laurel Hell, Mitski transforms emotional isolation, exhaustion and contradiction into vivid, polished pop. Following the acclaimed Be The Cowboy, the album finds her examining the pressures of public visibility, the deceptive comfort of false binaries and the complicated realities hidden beneath carefully maintained appearances.

Written across several years and completed during the isolation of the global pandemic, Laurel Hell was recorded with longtime producer Patrick Hyland. Its songs pair Mitski’s intimate, sharply observed writing with sleek synthesisers, propulsive rhythms and flashes of ’80s-inspired pop, creating a tension between bright surfaces and darker emotional undercurrents.

Featuring “Working For The Knife,” “The Only Heartbreaker,” “Stay Soft” and “Love Me More,” the album explores transformation through vulnerability, sorrow, resilience and self-acceptance. This vinyl reissue is pressed on opaque gold vinyl.
