Although Reload boasts a serrated metal edge—look no further than the burning-rubber thrash of "Fuel" and the snarling, breakneck "Prince Charming"—the record doubles down on the boundary-smashing hard rock found on the previous year's Load. The dense sludge rocker "Where the Wild Things Are" flashes with hypnotic vocal melodies, while the elegiac "Low Man's Lyric" boasts eerie violin and a mournful hurdy-gurdy, and the fire-and-brimstone licks of "The Memory Remains" give way to Marianne Faithfull's creaky, spooky vocal cameo.
