Mastodon Leviathan

Leviathan is the landmark second studio album from Mastodon, a monumental blend of progressive metal, sludge, thrash and crushing heavy rock that helped establish the Atlanta band as one of the defining metal acts of their generation.

Originally released in 2004, Leviathan takes inspiration from Herman Melville's Moby-Dick, using the novel's imagery and themes of obsession, struggle and the unforgiving power of the sea as the foundation for an ambitious concept album.

Across ten tracks, Mastodon combine immense riffs, intricate rhythms and progressive arrangements with an organic sense of power and momentum. The album includes enduring favourites Blood And Thunder, Iron Tusk, I Am Ahab and the epic Hearts Alive, showcasing the interplay between Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher, Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor at a pivotal point in the band's evolution.

Leviathan earned widespread acclaim on release and has since become regarded as a cornerstone of 21st-century metal, balancing technical complexity and conceptual ambition with the sheer physical impact of Mastodon's sound.

For 2026, this celebrated album receives a substantial new vinyl presentation. Available for the first time as a standalone 2LP maintaining the original song sequence, the album is pressed on Sky Blue Coloured Vinyl, with the second LP featuring music on Side C and a custom etching on Side D.

The records are housed in a gatefold jacket with gold foil stamping and a leather matte laminate finish, creating a suitably impressive edition of one of modern metal's essential albums.
