There’s a short list of things South Memphis rapper Key Glock never finds himself without: Money. Jewelry. A pistol. The arm of the most beautiful woman in the room. The envy of haters everywhere. We know as much because he tells us over and over again across his wildly fun fifth album, Glockaveli. Long-time fans know Glock as a one-time protégé of dearly departed fellow Memphis native Young Dolph. But in the wake of the Paper Route Empire mogul’s death in 2021, Glizzock carved a lane for himself that would have had Dolph smiling big enough to show off the whole of his signature blue-diamond grill. To be specific, Key Glock is having his way across the 18 tracks of Glockaveli, never losing sight of the ultimate mission: “I’ma go and get that money, like Dolph told me to,” he raps on “Hallelujah”.
