Released in 2022, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is the fifth studio album from Kendrick Lamar and his first full-length release since the Pulitzer Prize-winning DAMN.
Structured as a double album, the project finds Lamar turning his attention inward to examine accountability, family, relationships, identity, fame and generational trauma. Across its two distinct halves, he confronts personal shortcomings and inherited wounds with unflinching honesty, rejecting the expectations placed upon him as both a cultural figure and supposed saviour.
Musically ambitious and emotionally demanding, the album moves between jazz, soul, hip-hop and sparse theatrical arrangements. Guest appearances from Sampha, Summer Walker, Ghostface Killah, Baby Keem, Kodak Black and Beth Gibbons add further depth, while recurring narration from Whitney Alford and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle reinforces its reflective, therapeutic structure.
Featuring “N95,” “Die Hard,” “Father Time,” “Rich Spirit,” “Count Me Out” and “Savior,” Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is a deeply personal exploration of healing, responsibility and the difficult work of breaking destructive cycles.
