Originally released in 2012, 1999 is the breakthrough debut mixtape from Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$ and a defining release in the revival of New York underground hip-hop.
Only 17 years old at the time, Joey channelled the sound and spirit of ’90s boom bap through intricate wordplay, vivid storytelling and an assured delivery well beyond his years. Standouts including “Waves,” “Survival Tactics,” “Hardknock” and “Snakes” are built around production from Chuck Strangers, Lord Finesse, MF DOOM and J Dilla.
The mixtape also serves as a crucial document of the Pro Era collective, featuring memorable appearances from Capital STEEZ, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution, Chuck Strangers, Dyemond Lewis, Rokamouth, Dessy Hinds and T’nah Apex.
A modern underground classic that remains as vital as it sounded upon release, 1999 returns with this 2026 repress on black vinyl across two LPs.
