Iron & Wine Our Endless Numbered Days

Originally released in 2004, Our Endless Numbered Days marked a pivotal moment for Sam Beam, aka Iron & Wine. Following the hushed intimacy of his debut The Creek Drank the Cradle, this sophomore album expanded his sound while preserving the quiet emotional depth that first drew listeners in. It was Beam’s first record made in a professional studio, recorded between his Miami home and Chicago’s Engine Studios with producer Brian Deck.

Across its beautifully restrained arrangements, Beam’s songwriting feels both deeply personal and universally resonant — meditations on love, doubt, faith, longing and the fragile spaces in between. Songs unfold with gentle acoustic textures, layered harmonies and a warmth that has made this album a cornerstone of modern indie-folk. Standouts like “Naked As We Came,” “Cinder and Smoke,” and “Such Great Heights” (his celebrated Postal Service cover) helped define the era and remain fan favourites.
