Why Would I Watch is the acclaimed third studio album from Michigan's Hot Mulligan, a record that cemented the band as one of the leading names in the new generation of emo and pop-punk — or, as the band would have it, their self-proclaimed genre of “post-emo.”
Formed in Lansing, Michigan in 2014, Hot Mulligan built their following from basement shows into an international audience through the strength of albums Pilot and you'll be fine. By the time Why Would I Watch arrived in 2023, the band had developed a distinctive combination of explosive guitars, huge melodic hooks, emotionally raw songwriting and their trademark irreverent sense of humour.
Produced by longtime collaborator Brett Romnes, Why Would I Watch finds Hot Mulligan at once louder, catchier and more emotionally affecting. Songs including Shouldn't Have A Leg Hole But I Do, And I Smoke, Shhhh! Golf Is On and Smahccked My Head Awf balance cathartic pop-punk energy with deeply personal lyrics, helping make the album a defining release in the modern emo revival.
