Originally released in 1970, Funkadelic’s self-titled debut brought psychedelic rock, gospel, blues and soul together in a radical, genre-defying statement. While much of contemporary soul pursued polished crossover appeal, Funkadelic embraced distortion, improvisation, raw grooves and spiritual ambiguity, helping redefine the possibilities of Black music.

George Clinton is joined by a formidable young band featuring guitarist Eddie Hazel, bassist Billy Bass Nelson, guitarist Tawl Ross, drummer Tiki Fulwood and keyboardist Mickey Atkins. Tracks including “I Got A Thing, You Got A Thing, Everybody’s Got A Thing” and “What Is Soul” capture the group’s combination of muscular funk, psychedelic experimentation and surreal humour.

Part of Org Music’s Westbound Records reissue series, this remastered single-LP edition was cut from high-resolution transfers of the original master tapes, which were carefully archived and restored at 54 Sound Studios in Ferndale, Michigan.

A revolutionary album in its time and a lasting influence on funk, rock, hip-hop and beyond, Funkadelic remains a powerful testament to music without rules.
