Description

Now Would Be A Good Time is the striking debut album from Melbourne trio Folk Bitch Trio, a record that takes the traditions of folk music and injects them with sharp humour, modern anxieties and the messy realities of life in your twenties.

Formed by former high school friends Heide Peverelle, Jeanie Pilkington and Gracie Sinclair, the group approach folk from a distinctly contemporary perspective, sidestepping the genre's tendency toward reverence and solemnity in favour of wit, irony and brutally honest storytelling. Their songs are vivid and intimate, balancing beauty with discomfort in ways that feel closer to the worlds of writers like Mary Gaitskill and Otessa Moshfegh than traditional folk revivalism.

Across the album, Folk Bitch Trio explore dissociative daydreams, complicated relationships, sexual fantasies, media overload and the countless minor humiliations and resentments that define modern adulthood. Their lyrics are matched by stunning vocal harmonies and arrangements that feel timeless while remaining unmistakably contemporary.

Opening track Cathode Ray introduces the trio's breathtaking harmonies against spacious, atmospheric production, while Moth Song drifts through themes of unrequited love and emotional disorientation with dreamlike beauty, elevated by Anita Clark's haunting violin contributions. Elsewhere, songs such as The Actor and Hotel TV capture the awkward, painful and often absurd moments that accompany the end of relationships with remarkable honesty and dark humour.

Already having toured extensively across Australia, Europe and the United States alongside artists including King Gizzard, Alex G and Julia Jacklin, Folk Bitch Trio have quickly established themselves as one of Australia's most exciting new voices. Their signing to acclaimed independent label Jagjaguwar places them alongside artists such as Bon Iver, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

At its heart, Now Would Be A Good Time is an album about friendship, uncertainty and learning how to navigate contemporary life with equal parts cynicism and hope. It is a remarkable debut from a band whose songwriting, harmonies and perspective feel both timeless and entirely of the moment.
