Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture Soundtrack captures the legendary final performance of David Bowie’s most famous alter ego at London’s Hammersmith Odeon on 3 July 1973.
Filmed onstage and backstage by acclaimed director D.A. Pennebaker, the concert culminated in Bowie’s unexpected announcement that it would be “the last show that we’ll ever do”—a farewell to Ziggy that stunned the audience and even surprised members of the Spiders from Mars.
This remastered edition restores the complete running order, including the previously omitted “The Jean Genie / Love Me Do” medley and “Round and Round,” both featuring legendary guitarist Jeff Beck and newly mixed by longtime Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti. Bowie’s historic farewell speech and climactic performance of “Rock ’n’ Roll Suicide” complete an essential document of one of rock music’s most celebrated eras.
