Buena Vista Social Club celebrates its 30th anniversary with a special limited edition pressing of one of the most celebrated and influential recordings of Cuban music.
Recorded in just seven days at Havana’s historic EGREM studios in 1996, the project brought together Cuban bandleader Juan de Marcos González, guitarist and producer Ry Cooder and World Circuit founder Nick Gold with an extraordinary group of veteran Cuban musicians. Among them were Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo and Omara Portuondo.
Released in 1997, Buena Vista Social Club became an unexpected worldwide phenomenon, winning a Grammy Award and selling more than eight million copies. Its remarkable performances introduced a new international audience to Cuba’s rich musical heritage, while Wim Wenders’ acclaimed documentary further elevated its musicians to global recognition.
Three decades later, the warmth, musicianship and spontaneous energy captured during those Havana sessions remain as captivating as ever. This 30th Anniversary Edition features the remastered audio and bonus material first released for the album’s expanded 25th Anniversary edition in 2021.
